An experiment causes a blackout in Colorado. Inventor Nikola Tesla moved his labs to Colorado Springs in 1899. He was experimenting with high-voltage, high-frequency electricity in wireless power transmission. Among other things, he created artificial lightning. But there were problems. In 1900, Tesla’s work blew out a local power station generator—temporarily blacking out Colorado Springs. Soon after, he tore down the lab and moved to New York.
